Tailor Made Cycling Holidays in the Sun
According to a recent report, the popularity of cycling holidays has increased by about thirty percent over the past two to three years. There are many reasons for this. The first is that cycling is relatively cheap and in the wake of the recession people are trying to save money any way they can.
Another explanation is that most people in the UK don't get enough exercise. We know this because the obesity rate has doubled over the past 14 years. Tailor made cycling holidays are the perfect excuse for the average overweight individual to burn off a few pounds.
Where to start? First you must choose a location. While most are happy to save money cycling around the UK, others enjoy a more exotic locale. From what we have read, France and Spain are the most popular destinations for people who choose to go on cycling holidays overseas. (more...)
Gym or the Great Outdoors?
Many people choose gym membership as their way of getting exercise on a regular basis. The advantages are that you can choose to go to the gym in all weathers, plus there are facilities so that you can exercise in your lunch hour or after work, then take a shower and carry on as normal.
The advanced technology on offer in many gyms means that you can monitor your heartbeat and calories and listen to music or the TV at the same time! However, let's face it, joining a gym is incredibly expensive. There is also a real danger that you will go a few times then let is lapse, thereby wasting your money totally.
Another, more natural way, of taking exercise, is by choosing an outdoor pursuit such as running or riding Ghost Mountain Bikes. The benefits over a gym are that you are exercising in the open air and interacting with nature. Depending on the type of exercise chosen, it need not be expensive and it is something that the whole family can join in. (more...)
Europe by Bike
I have many friends in Europe whose favourite hobby is mountain biking. They like nothing better than taking off, alone or with family or friends on their Full Suspension Mountain Bikes and savouring the scenery and countryside of Europe.
Of course, they can only pack the necessities, so they are limited in their creature comforts, but this does not deter those who are immersed in this life. A simple tent, some basic shared cooking utensils and the vital sleeping bag. They are just happy to be at one with Mother Nature and can do without the luxuries of everyday life.
It is impressive how many miles they can cover per day, seemingly effortlessly. Up mountains, around lakes and through the small and often unexplored roads of each country. They really get to see a side of the country that those in cars or campervans never get to see. In short, life is at a totally different pace. (more...)
